In October 2014, CUTE project carried out a surgical mission in Benin. Evanthia (occupational Therapist) was invited to the join the cute team on this mission in order to assist with rehabilitation.
Part of the therapy role included
a)Management of scars through the design and construction of specialized pressure garments
b)Design and construction of splints aimed at supporting limbs in specific positions according to individual needs.
The work that she was able to do would not have been possible without the generous donation of material by SAETRA HEALTH
Saetra HEALTH is a South African based company which assists practitioners in the medical profession in obtaining equipment, tools and materials needed to fully and professionally do their job.
Saetra Health was kind enough to donate a number of materials including pressure garment material and splinting material (thermoplastic and Velcro). Ordinarily these materials are very expensive and are not readily available even in a first world setting. As such it was a huge privilege to receive this wonderful donation which was used to better the lives of many patients treated during the mission.
Cute project would therefore like to once again extend a heart-felt thank you to SAETRA HEALTH for their generous sponsorship.
Dal 20 al 22 Novembre a Genova si terrà il V° Congresso SPeRA in Cute Project Onlus presenterà due progetti:
– Missione Germana Erba in Benin 2014
– Missione esplorativa Cute4Congo the other side a Mossaka nella Repubblica del Congo
Il primo Convegno SPeRA (Solidarietà, Progetti e Risorse per l’Africa) è stato organizzato nel giugno 2010, dall’Associazione Medici in Africa, con l’obiettivo di creare sinergie ed eventuali collaborazioni tra le diverse associazioni.
Accolto con grande favore dagli operatori del volontariato ha dato luogo alla costituzione del Consorzio SPeRA, che attualmente riunisce oltre trenta associazioni, impegnate in Africa.
Le iniziative per aiutare l’Africa sono numerosissime, una grande catena di solidarietà costituita da ONG, ONLUS, missioni cattoliche ma anche da aziende e da privati cittadini: tante realtà diverse, accomunate dall’essere italiane e dall’interesse nei confronti di uno stesso continente.
Il Congresso SPeRA rappresenta un’occasione di incontro per tutti coloro che, a livello nazionale, si occupano di solidarietà in Africa Sub Sahariana, con l’intento di:
– dar voce a tutti i programmi di aiuto per l’Africa
– favorire collaborazioni e sinergie tra gli operatori e le diverse realtà associative laiche e religiose
– agevolare il reclutamento di nuove forze umane ed economiche
– mettere in contatto il mondo della solidarietà e quello delle imprese
– avvicinare il mondo dei giovani e degli studenti a quello del no profit e alle opportunità offerte dal continente africano
Cute Project Onlus sarà presente al congresso nazionale della Società Italiana delle Ustioni che si terrà dal 16 al 20 Novembre 2014 al Sermig di Torino.
La nostra associazione avrà una presentazione della propria attività all’interno dell’Humanitarian Conference. Verrà inoltre presentato il progetto Occhio alla Fiamma, il quale è stato recentemente accettato come pubblicazione all’interno della rivista del Mediterranean Burns and Fire Disastera Council.

AUSTRALIAN CUTE PROJECT
Children suffering burns and other disabilities in Africa, suffer again, because there is a desperate lack of surgical opportunity combined with families unable to pay for their children’s surgery. It is difficult to convey the heartbreak and sadness experienced daily. Surgery would change the lives and futures of these children forever. Some of those that survive to adulthood are socially shunned and have little prospect of employment or normal social lives.
Poverty is the biggest barrier in their lives, but there is a worldwide consortium of health professionals who are donating their skills and time to help these children.
The Cute Project is a not-for-profit organisation whose aim is to meet the medical needs of affected children. These include accidental or deliberate burns and disfiguring birth defects.
Cute comprises an exceptional lead medical team from Italy, with the support of dedicated people and health care practitioners from South Africa and Australia.
Cute Australia relies on volunteers and donations to further support this vital medical work for the Italian team. For example, Cute Project have just completed a successful surgical outreach in Benin in West Africa and will be returning to the Congo in 2015 to continue their vital work with disadvantaged children.
Cute’s reconstructive plastic surgery allows these children the prospect of living social and productive lives. The team members’ dedication, compassion and love towards these children has been overwhelming. As part of its aim, it is involved in the theoretical and practical training of health personnel in developing countries.
Noreen Davern is the Australian Representative of Cute Project. Noreen worked with Cute Project in the Congo Nov/Dec 2013 as a Remedial Massage Therapist, specialising in burns scar tissue management. For further information email noreen_davern@cute-project.org.
Noreen has been involved in fundraising in Australia through raffle ticket sales and massage treatments held at a variety of local festivals with the support of her dedicated team. While involved in these activities, the team have been actively delivering the Cute Project message.

Il team di Cute Project Onlus è tornato alla base, ma il personale locale dell’ospedale di N’Dali sta continuando egregiamente le cure ai pazienti operati, i quali stanno tutti bene.
Kanidia, una giovanissima e deliziosa paziente operata durante la missione, ha inviato il seguente messaggio che ci riempie di gioia:

Mercoledì 29 Ottobre presso il Costadoro Coffee Lab Diamante di Torino si terrà una serata di beneficenza a favore di Cute Project, per volere ed in ricordo di Germana Erba: colei che ci ha da sempre sostenuto e ha prestato il nome alla nostra, appena conclusa, missione in Benin.
A partire dalle ore 20.00 verrà servita, a buffet, una cena tipica africana, a cui seguiranno canti e danze africane ed un’asta di beneficenza. Il leitmotiv della serata sarà, dunque, l’Africa. La bella e selvaggia Africa che ci ha accolto ed ospitato dal 26 Settembre al 10 Ottobre, durante la nostra missione “Germana Erba”.
Il costo della serata è di 30 €, comprensivi di cena ed una bevanda.
L’invito è rivolto a tutti coloro che abbiano piacere di passare una serata in compagnia dello staff di Cute Project, ai nostri sostenitori, grazie ai quali abbiamo avuto la possibilità di effettuare la nostra missione, e a tutti coloro che ci permetteranno di avviarne molte altre.
