Cute Project Onlus

In October 2014,   CUTE project carried out a surgical mission in Benin. Evanthia (occupational Therapist) was invited to the join the cute team on this mission in order to assist with rehabilitation.
Part of the therapy role included

a)Management of scars through the design and construction of specialized pressure garments
b)Design and construction of splints aimed at supporting limbs in specific positions according to individual needs.

The work that she was able to do would not have been possible without the generous donation of material by SAETRA HEALTH
Saetra HEALTH is a South African based company which assists practitioners in the medical profession in obtaining equipment, tools and materials needed to fully and professionally do their job.
Saetra Health was kind enough to donate a number of materials including pressure garment material and splinting material (thermoplastic and Velcro). Ordinarily these materials are very expensive and are not readily available even in a first world setting.  As such it was a huge privilege to receive this wonderful donation which was used to better the lives of many patients treated during the mission.
Cute project would therefore like to once again extend a heart-felt thank you to SAETRA HEALTH for their generous sponsorship.

Cute Project Onlus

“Dear Daniele and CUTE team,
I hope this mail finds you all well and rested from the mission. I wanted to express again my thanks and sincere gratitude for inviting me to be a part of such a great project!!  What an awesome experience!!
I am truly humbled and overwhelmed by the passion, love and spirit of the CUTE team.  You are all incredible and your heart  shows in every single act and gesture. A wise person once said that the  secret to success  is to “Put your heart, mind and soul into even the smallest acts.” This trip was a true success for that very reason.
You have made an incredible difference in the life of so many people. To be able to give back in this world, in such a wonderful way, is life-changing and inspiring not only for the community but for me too.   So, thank you – thank you- thank you!!!
I look forward to seeing you all again next year!!

Letter to CUTE

Cute Project Onlus

Hi
I am Helene and I am the representative of CUTE in South Africa. I have been organising surgery for badly burned children of Africa for the past ten years and hope to do it for the rest of my life. It is a huge honour for me to represent CUTE in South Africa.
This year I have organised the release of contractures to the arms and neck of a boy from Madagascar, whom we have saved from inevitable death in 2012. Zaka Kely Razafindranovona received third degree burns on 65 % of his body in August 2011. Because his family could not afford any medical costs, he was sent home to die. For 5 months he lay on a dirty mattress in a hut in rural Madagascar. His only treatment was that of the “sangoma “ (spiritual healer), who spat on the wounds and then wrapped them in banana leaves .The wounds were badly infected and his arms and neck severely contracted by the time Christian missionaries found him in April 2012. We flew him to South Africa and the first of two sets of operations were done.
This is the type of work that I do and hope to continue doing in collaboration with CUTE.
Looking forward to working with a great team!
Ciao
Dr Helene van Rhyn
